Learning from home period extended until July 30

Learning from home period extended until July 30

Dear Parents/Carers,

After the Premier’s announcement today that our Local Government Area will continue to operate under NSW Health stay-at-home orders and restrictions until Friday July 30, students at Berkeley West Public School will continue to learn at home until then.

Our schools will remain open for the students and families of essential workers who need it, although parents are encouraged to keep their children at home. There will only be minimal staff supervision and schools will provide one unit of work for students, whether they are learning from home or in the classroom.

To enable and continue to support your child to learn from home, please ensure you have access to your child’s Class Dojo account to best communicate with your child’s class teacher. We still have computer devices at school you can borrow should you need one for your child. Contact the school on 4271 1478 to arrange pick-up of a computer device.

Using your mobile or computer, visit www.classdojo.com and enter your specific code to communicate with your child’s teacher. If you do not have a code or have forgotten it, please leave your details at the following link and your child’s teacher will send it to you as soon as possible. Link to get code to Class Dojo can be found here- https://forms.gle/RJucn9RZSFnVrK9WA

Your child’s teacher will need some communication from you/your child everyday from home and a photo of at least one piece of work sent through each day on Dojo by 4pm to be marked present for the day. If not, your child will be marked absent. If necessary, the assistance of the Home School Liaison Officer or local police may be called upon to make contact with families we have not heard from for a prolonged period of time.

For any children of essential workers coming to school, they will need to be dropped off and picked up at the Nolan Street gate. The Gallop Street gate will not be opened this week. Parents are not to enter the school grounds.

Please note that the school canteen is NOT open until restrictions have been lifted. Any students coming to school will need to bring their own lunch, recess and drink.

Students should not attend school if unwell, even with mild symptoms of COVID-19. Any person with any COVID-19 symptoms will be sent home and should not return to school until they have received a negative test result and are symptom-free.

In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter from their GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test. Anyone who is unwell with COVID-19 symptoms is strongly encouraged to get tested and self-isolate until a negative result is received.

We appreciate your continued cooperation and support during this time. We will keep you posted on any changes as they are announced. Keep an eye on Facebook and Class Dojo for future messages.

Stay safe!
